Short and Sweet

Jim was moved to the 15th floor around 1:00 Saturday morning. This is the floor he was on when he was admitted for the infection under his arm. Actually he has the same room with the noisy bed that turns on and off every few minutes. By the time he arrived to the floor his temperature was normal. They started IV antibiotics in the ER so it's possible the antibiotics helped squash the infection. After Jim was settled in his room I took a cab back to the Hope Lodge. New York City never sleeps, especially on the weekends. It was 1:50 in the morning when I was in the cab. There were lots of people still walking around. I saw a rat on a street corner. I saw a homeless person huddled in the corner of a building. We passed one nightclub and I couldn't believe the line of people out front waiting to get in. That's NYC.

Today has been another busy day for Jim with people constantly coming in. On top of the usual medical team he was also visited by a nutritionist and a chaplain. Both of them helpful. The transplant team visited and reassured us it is not uncommon to end up back in the hospital. A fever is an automatic admission because they can't take chances with Jim's new immune system. His immune system is like a brand new baby's. His white blood counts are back in the normal range but if he were to catch a bad bacteria or fungal infection his counts would not be able to fight it.

Jim also received an IV infusion called IGIV. It is a solution containing antibodies to help his body protect itself against infection from various diseases. The infusion took 4-5 hours and they gave Jimmy Benadryl IV before they started. The Benadryl made him very sleepy so he rested for a couple of hours which was a good idea.

Being the weekend the last shuttle run was 3:30 so Jim insisted I go back on it. He was really tired today and just wanted to rest and catch up on missed sleep. Back at the Lodge I worked on organizing the room and watched It's Complicated on the TV. I may have more errors than expected but tonights blog was hard to put together. Not a lot of news and I'm tired/sleepy.
